Established since 1946, BNI is formerly known as Bank Negara Indonesia, is the first bank founded and owned by the Government of Indonesia.
Bank Negara Indonesia began to circulate the first official payment instrument issued bythe Government of Indonesia, the ORI or Oeang Republic of Indonesia, on the eve of October 30, 1946, just a few months since its formation. Until now, that date is celebrated as the Day of National Finance, while the establishment day which falls onJuly 5, defined as the Day of National Bank.
